DIY : Max’s Halloween Costume

 DIY-Halloween_Oct312015

Since becoming a mom, any time I have to do any sewing is practically impossible. When my eldest son’s daycare asked that all the kids show up in a Halloween costume on Friday, it was time for me to roll up my sleeves and dust off the ol’ sewing machine. I had some bright orange fabric, iron-on reflective tape and some denim belt loops et voilà!, a construction vest was born. For the pattern, I pretty much eyeballed it by tracing directly on the fabric, using one of Max’s sweatshirts as a base. Although this was a very simple item to make, my degree of difficulty was my impatient 3 1/2 month old son, Thomas. Just getting it done was a victory! Not going to lie, I’m quite happy with how it turned out visually, despite the quality of my sewing being a little crappy. Oh well. That’ll teach me to get lazy. It was nice to have a little project like this. A nice reminder of how much I love doing stuff like this. So, now, I have another little project lined up: making a pair of pull-on denim pants from my husband’s old pair of jeans. Stay tuned for my next blog post with the results!
